About the Brand: Why I Started Bullwinkle Joyriding Mowers

If I’m Honest,

I assume anyone following this project knows me personally and the deeper story. I also assume that people aren't generally interested in what I'm doing outside of my face-to-face interactions. I don't think any of these assumptions are really fair so It's probably time I introduced myself a little further.

Let me Introduce Myself

I'm Cody Banks and the one who started Bullwinkle Joyriding Mowers. It has slowly turned into a community of guys who get together weekly to take a break from the grind of life and work on something just for the fun of it. There are no benchmarks, deadlines, or unnecessary bullshit and there's a reason for that.

Two years ago, my life was quickly turned on its head. My wife and I went through the hardest year of our life in which we started a new business, left a toxic church, supported a family member through a separation, and discovered a lot of unfortunate truths about people we thought to be our support system. In every situation we chose to maintain integrity as much as we knew how, but if you've had one of these seasons, you know that it can be easier said than done.

Great. but what does this have to do with lawnmowers?

During one of the many sessions of counseling from that year, I said that I just needed something that wasn't self-development, business-related, or for lack of a better term "work". That same day, I discovered racing lawnmowers specifically "drifting mowers".

"But why racing mowers when there are so many other hobbies?" - said no one ever

Because you've never needed a racing lawn mower. No one has ever been in a dire situation and thought, "Man if only I had a racing mower. That would really solve my problem." They're pointless, stupid, and odd. But they're also cheaper than a car, simple to find, and relatively easy to work on.

Hang out for a while.

I think my favorite part of this whole journey has been how well it's been received. Anytime I talk about it, people seem genuinely interested which has led to the growth of the crew. It started with just me and my grandad, Pap, but has grown to a core group of 5 guys: Me, Pap, Josh, Sean (aka "Brain), and Devin (aka "Lucky"). These guys show up weekly with several others that come as they can.

It feels like 2023 was a separate life from the one I have now, but I'm thankful for the lessons learned, relationships (both lost and gained), and self-confidence that came out of that season. Those things have led me to where I am and the vision for Bullwinkle Joyriding Mowers.

While yes, you will find shop humor, stupid posts, and other cool shit on our socials, but it's a lot more than that. It's a break from it all.

So welcome to the crew. Feel free to sit and rest for a while ✌️
